چکیده

Introduction. Laboratory data on the evaporation kinetics and isotope fractionation of evaporation residues of silicate liquids exposed to vacuum or lowpressure gas of solar or dust-enriched compositions provide constraints on processes that affected the evolution of primitive inclusions in meteorites. In earlier work we focused on evaporations of Type B CAI-like liquids [1,4]. Here we will reexamine the evaporation kinetics of sodium and potassium from a chondrule-like liquid, and the isotopic fractionation of potassium of the evaporation residues. The quantities that need to be determined are the evaporation coefficients γi in the Hertz-

Silicon Isotope Ratio Analysis of a Cai by Laser Ablation Mc-icpms and Implications for the Astrophysics of Cai Formation

Introduction: While it is well known that igneous CAIs tend to have high Si/Si and Mg/Mg relative to chondritic values, there have been few systematic studies that relate observed isotope fractionations in CAIs to their conditions and timescales of formation. Together with a wealth of information about the physical chemistry associated with evaporation and condensation of CAI-like liquids [1] w...

Silicon isotopic fractionation of CAI-like vacuum evaporation residues

Calcium-, aluminum-rich inclusions (CAIs) are often enriched in the heavy isotopes of magnesium and silicon relative to bulk solar system materials. It is likely that these isotopic enrichments resulted from evaporative mass loss of magnesium and silicon from early solar system condensates while they were molten during one or more high-temperature reheating events. Quantitative interpretation o...

Iron Isotope Composition of Allende and Chainpur Chondrules: Effects of Equilibration and Thermal History

Introduction: We have studied the petrography and Fe-isotope composition of seven chondrules, four from the Allende (CV3) carbonaceous chondrite and three from the Chainpur (LL3.4) ordinary chondrite. Three textural-chemical chondrule types are represented within this sample set: (1) BO, (2) RP and (3) PO/POP. These textural differences allow us to exa mine the Fe-isotope composition in materia...

Tetrathionate and Elemental Sulfur Shape the Isotope Composition of Sulfate in Acid Mine Drainage

Sulfur compounds in intermediate valence states, for example elemental sulfur, thiosulfate, and tetrathionate, are important players in the biogeochemical sulfur cycle. However, key understanding about the pathways of oxidation involving mixed-valance state sulfur species is still missing. Here we report the sulfur and oxygen isotope fractionation effects during the oxidation of tetrathionate (...
